King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda (KFH, R)“A Center of Excellence in Health Service Provision, Clinical Education, and Research” — is continuing to grow as it embraces a new strategic direction. Position Title: Cooks

Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. Minimum Qualification: Advanced Certificate in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related field.
  2. Experience: At least two (2) years of work experience in a hospital setting.
  3. Additional Qualification: Any relevant additional training or certification is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with dietitians to ensure all patient meals meet required nutritional standards, especially for special or fluid-based diets.
  • Monitor kitchen expenditures in line with the approved budget and hospital policies.
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and servicing of kitchen equipment to extend lifespan and safeguard assets.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels through timely requisition and implement First-In, First-Out (FIFO) rotation practices.
  • Resolve daily operational issues and complaints in line with hospital procedures.
  • Monitor cleaning and hygiene standards to ensure food safety; enforce staff health checks and PPE usage.
  • Develop contingency plans for patient catering during emergencies.
  • Ensure participation in mandatory training, induction, and orientation sessions.
  • Maintain accurate records on kitchen activities, equipment temperatures, and food spoilage.
  • Conduct regular inspections of cold storage safety equipment, including alarms and UV lights.
  • Keep daily food usage logs for costing and maintain inspection and compliance records.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Good knowledge of food service work procedures, safety, planning, and organization.
  2. A satisfactory record of continuous professional development.
  3. Ability to operate relevant kitchen machinery and equipment.
  4. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  5. Strong deductive reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to work under pressure with patience and focus.
  7. Qualifications in health-related fields, quality management/assurance, or risk management in healthcare are added advantages.
